UK recession – what’s next?

Last week, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) published the latest UK Gross Domestic Product (GDP) figures for the final three months of 2023, which fell 0.3%.1 As this followed a 0.1% fall1 in the previous quarter, the UK has entered into a technical recession, commonly defined as two consecutive quarters of negative growth. What was the reason for the negative growth? Is it likely to continue?
