Taking stock

The bitter and painful pill prescribed by policymakers to combat inflation has been much higher interest rates. Higher borrowing costs for both individuals and businesses take time to filter into the economy to tackle rising prices. Nearly two years and fourteen rate rises later, the Bank of England meets to decide whether the medicine has finally worked.
